Postura Project: Sarah Meier
"Trend-free, ghetto fab, minimalist, bohemian."
-Postura Project on Sarah Meier
So, Sarah Meier is really cool, huh? If I could raid someone's closet I'd definitely raid hers ( and Pauline Prieto's and Penny Ngu's too--both were part of Preview's Best Dressed 2011.)
Here are my favorites from her 30 Day Challenge (Wear Something Filipino Everyday).
(It was hard to choose! I almost wanted to just re-blog the whole damn thing!)
Day 3,9,12,14,16&20

Art in the Park 2012
Hitched a ride to Makati (thanks JV). Hard part's covered.
Until it drizzled...then poured! To think that paintings were everywhere!!! gaaah... I was like a ticking bomb. (Credit to IC for making me this prissy!)
This is the first time I went without having to man a table. Yey, finally I got to properly go around.
Since Salcedo Market was still there and I've always wanted to see what the big hoopla was all about, I decided to dive in.
Lots to see, at least compared to Mercatto. This one's loads better but the holy grail of all food (etc.) markets is still Banchetto.
One plus of Salcedo is it's set in the morning to late lunch. The universe knows how cranky I get when hungry so staying up late just to eat is torture! It's also a lot more interesting and fun for the eyes with everyone all dressed up (of course to them, they aren't. hahaha) and pretty.
hahaha. I don't meant anything by this.
Onto the main event...
A lot of people came despite of the mud and the rain. Saw a lot of familiar faces, some I know personally and others through newspapers, magazines and the tube. Surreal. Now, art IS cool!
I noticed that the roster of galleries, art groups and fine arts departments of universities/colleges becomes more interesting every year too.
Charlie Co's sculptural work based on one of his paintings.
I don't know whose these are, but I am in-love with them.
Since most of the galleries' booths were packed with people, I knew getting decent photos will be quite taxing. So here, most of the photos are from the Pottery booth (not sure about the name though) and Resurrection Furniture and Found Objects Gallery (I think it's the same one in UP Village).
Anyway, buying paintings and other substantial works were out of the question. I'm not there yet and even if I had the moola to afford one work, where would I hang it? So I limited my to-buy list to two things: one merchandise-cum-artwork (yes, they are artworks in their own right) from both Leeroy's Delirium (Design and Art) and Mark's Boy Agimat lines.

I got it in white though.
Mark took photos of people who purchased his stuff and posted them on twitter. Since I am one of them, I am somewhere there.

To end, let me share a photo of my lovely friend JV. Hardwork doesn't mean you have to look stressed. Congrats sa diyosa ng Contemporary Alternative Cebu.
Art in the Park sure is fun. And I'm starting to like Makati.

Jose Joya, Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi & Lirio Salvador in UP
I just have to say, I really miss being a full-time student in UP. A portion of my day was always spent there (yes, a bit nerdy I have to admit). Since I took a day off from the museum to work on my paper, I decided to spend it in my college hang-out.
UP Main Library
Ta-da.
I stayed at the Filipiniana Section. I was half expecting to see Ian, a friend from college who was an SA there. Had to remind myself he's now at work like most of our batch mates.
I was also looking for the lady who used to photocopy books there (the fan of Patricia Evangelista who hung her columns on the wall beside the machine). I remember she used to staple colored paper with quotations she comes across in her readings, on to every batch of copies she makes. I spoke to her a couple of times and she mentioned teaching in UP in one the CAL departments. Anyway, a young guy was there instead. I wonder where she is.
After, I made sure to drop by Bulwagan ng Dangal. Two exhibitions are up on show- works of Jose Joya and Ofelia Gelvezon-Tequi.
I was really excited to go see this since I wasn't able to catch another Joya exhibit at Ayala Museum (according to the net, the retrospective was a series wherein exhibits were also mounted at the National Museum and at the CCP). I don't think it's the same show though. Also, two of my favorite paintings are of his-
After, I went straight to Jorge B. Vargas Museum. It was a Wednesday so entrance is free for UP students! Yey! Funny how kuya said I looked familiar. He asked if I was always there. hahaha. Yes, especially now that I am reminded of free Wednesdays!
Awesome exhibit since you can play with each piece! Good thing another visitor knew how to play the guitar so the lame sounds I made while tinkering with the strings got drowned out.
Might be worth your time too. Check out the following schedules to save you the hassle.
Exhibition runs until 3 March 2012

I first saw this in one of our slides in my 2D Art back in college and of course, Granadean Arabesque. I suggest you go see it in person to see what I mean. It's at the Ateneo Art Gallery (yes, I am into shameless plugging).
First things first, I love what they did at Bulwagan. The lights are amazing, I heard lighting in some museums abroad are like this.
Back to Joya, discovered a few new things about his art practice at the exhibit.
I didn't know he did sculptures and ceramics.

On to the next exhibit,
For some reason I forgot to get a photo of the captions for these two works. Sorry about that.
I found them really interesting since they had clear references of a slot machine and my favorite game Space Invaders. It was so fresh seeing these works of hers since what I usually come across with are those of religious and political undertones.
Here are her portraits which I really love.
